Color Activities

Here is a TPT link to the Color Monster Books that my kids will be making this year along with full color posters. Each of the 8 monsters (8 basic colors) have a silly rhyme like "red, red forgot his head; yellow, yellow sat in jello." It is just another fun thing to do while you are learning to read and spell your colors at the beginning of the year. Click on the images below, and the link will take you to my TPT store.

Here are color activities and songs that we use at the beginning of the school year. All of the songs are from FROG STREET PRESS. They have a CD that you can purchase with all of the songs on it.

For RED, we make an Elmo using a paper plate.

For PURPLE, we read Harold and the Purple Crayon. We then do our own illustration of what we would draw if we had a purple crayon.

use with Harold and the Purple Crayon.

For BROWN, we read BROWN BEAR, BROWN BEAR WHAT DO YOU SEE by Eric Carle. We painted a regular sized paper plate and small plate brown...then added details for a bear.

For BLACK, we read TEN BLACK DOTS. Then, the students were prompted to create a picture using black dots. Here are a few examples that the students could go by (Thanks, Nedy Cruz for making these cute samples!):

For GREEN, we read the story GO AWAY BIG GREEN MONSTER. We then create our own rendition of the green monster.

For ORANGE, we read The Big Orange Splot, and then we create our decorative house with a big orange splot.

For BLUE, we make a cookie monster.

For YELLOW, we make a cool sun with a circle and triangles.

We sing a song for every color to learn how to spell it, but we don't always have time to make an art project for each color.
